The path to glory

Kid Strangelove has been setting a solid example as of late, so I’m joining in on the festivities.

Self-analysis is key to any man interested in self-improvement. It’s easy to cruise through life and take the path of least resistance, it’s literally programmed into our brains to do so.

For millions of years we’ve been programmed to do a lot of things. It’s time we reprogram ourselves and take the path of resistance.

 

#NoNothingNovember

1. No TV or Movies.

I don’t have cable so that’s not the issue. It’s the streaming of entire seasons in a weekend. It’s having a movie on in the background instead of classical tunes. It starts with one episode and snowballs into half the day wasted. Then I rationalize my movie watching as a study in predictive programing and a search for the symbolic behind the words. No matter how I skin it, it is still a waste of time.

2. No getting back in bed after alarm. 

My alarm has been on the other side of the room for months. Doesn’t do much for me when I fall into the habit of turning it off and going back to bed for 30 minutes again. It’s all about momentum. When I get up and straight into pushups or a cold shower the rest of the day is downhill from there.

3. No Booze.

Was going through some old pictures from before my motorcycle accident, when I was a only a few more weeks away from the end of my cut. Nowhere near as good shape today. Injuries kept adding up but I’m back on track now and cutting out the booze will help my sleep/recovery and keep my diet in check. I still have a slight lingering pain in my left wrist on pushing exercises but my pulling movements are feeling great. Plus Kait’s been ccoking some amazing stews and veggie meals for us so that always helps.

 

Day 1

Spent most of the day working off my hangover from Halloween. Ditched a few saturday night parties and fell asleep around 7pm. Slept till at least 10 this morning, the clocks jumped back so it felt great to catch up on some sleep.

Goals: I didn’t break any yesterday, no alarm was set and I pounded water all day. The no movies was easy since I was so wiped from the week and Halloween.

 

Day 2 

Slept in, hit the gym for deadlifts, cleaned my pad a bit, ran some errands and as I’m typing this it’s only 11:55am. Feels good to be rested and knock things down one by one.

For the rest of the day I’ll be playing catch up on the rest of my backlog of work and getting some sun.

The first party I’ve got coming up this month is the birthday of a girl who doesn’t drink so that should be a nice way to ease into abstinence. I reckon the alcohol thing is going to be hardest, just because of how much it is a part of every social occasion. Easy enough to handle in isolation but add other people drinking around you and suddenly it takes a lot more willpower.

I like your idea of no TV/Movies. I think I’ll put a limit on my watching rather than switch off completely. I need to limit the amount of mindless internet in general. Particularly stuff like Reddit where there is quite a lot of negative bullshit and mindsets of mediocrity to accidentally indoctrinate yourself into.

    Yup it’s hard to be around drinkers when you aren’t. I’ve been getting sick of going out anyway though so it’ll be a good time to try it out.

Hey Buddy, how did everything go? Any notable backslides or was it all smooth sailing? I cut booze for 90 days from late Jan to late April in 2015 and got shredded for the summer and saved a lotttttt of money. Working on that again right now for this year. Love to hear more about your experience.

    2016 has been my best year yet, highest ups lowest downs. Working on smoothing out the ship for 2017.
